Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

32 mm speaker driver

The 32 mm speaker driver is a compact yet powerful element for delivering non-distorted sound with any given input power.

Self-adjusting inner headband

Typically, headphones worn outdoors are adjustable by sliding an extendable headband into position. This can be inconvenient as it usually has to be done every time you use them. But now you can get your music fix faster and easier thanks to the flexible, self-adjusting inner headband on these headphones, which automatically adjusts to your head's shape and size.

Lightweight design

The durable, lightweight quality materials enhance comfort for extended wearing.

FM Wireless transmission

With high-frequency FM wireless transmission, which can even pass through walls, you can even listen to your music when you're in another room.

Fully rechargeable

The headphones are designed to be used with rechargeable batteries. No worries about cost for repeated use.

2 transmission channels

With a choice of two transmission channels your listening pleasure is protected because you can easily switch to the one with the best reception.

    Customer Reviews

I got these Philips SHC5100/05 Wireless headphones primarily for TV watching, and for that, they seem to do a pretty decent job (more later).

In the box, you get the headphones, the sender unit, and charger unit, a set of sparse but adequate instructions and a couple of AAA rechargeable batteries.

Getting going is pretty intuitive ... even sticking the antennae over the wire on the sender unit.

The headphones are supplied with a couple of channels, an on/off switch, and volume control.

At first I could not see how to differentiate between left and right, and only on very close inspection did I see an L and R embossed into the head-piece. (for my reference, right is the side with the volume control).

As for the all important sound quality. Volume is OK for me, and whilst there is some escape of noise, my wife (who has super-sonic hearing) tells me that it is acceptable when sitting a yard or so away.

Sound quality is acceptable for me, especially for use with the TV, and OK for music too. to be honest I would not expect wireless headphones of this price to produce really superb hifi quality. I have some wired Sony headphones that cost a similar amount of cash and they are much better for music.

As for range, like all wifi headphones, the further away you go from the base unit, the greater the chance of hiss and drop of signal ... these are OK, I can move 3 rooms away from the sender with still reasonable sound quality (and good enough for pit-stops during the grand prix season)

The headphones are pretty light and are comfortable to wear (even for a couple of hours) even if they do make you look like a Cyberman.

So all in all, good value, decent sound and comfortable.

PS ... As mentioned earlier, The Headphones use a special shortened sleeve AAA battery ... so far, I have not been able to source any ... tried amazon and even Philips website ... so I hope they last.

As a PPS, on the Philips website, these are listed under TV and Home Entertainment.

The cups on these headphones are a generous size and well padded, making these headphones very comfortable to wear, and with the inner headband being adjustable, they fit nice and securely.

The sound quality of these headphones was slightly disappointing. I fully appreciate that a wireless setup will never be able to compete with wired headphones but I still expected the sound to have a bit more 'meat' to it. The sound didn't always seem as crisp as it should have been and there were times when I could hear a slight background hiss, changing RF channels didn't improve this.

A sound purist would never go for wireless headphones because of the limitations of RF, so these headphones are aimed at people who want the convenience of music on the move, and the Philips SHC5100/05 headphones achieve this aim, at the cost of slightly compromised sound quality.
